FEMALE CENTERIC ROLES IN BOLLOYWOD MOVIES

Over the time Bollywood has changed a lot. Earlier it was protagonists, rarely holistic and mostly subject to ingrained biases. Bu now there has been a surge in female centric movies. Directors are coming up with such great roles and real life unsung female heroes. Deepika Padukone-  Chhapaak/Padmaavat/Piku

Before discussing roles she portrayed in her pervious movies, let’s discuss the most talked about movie of the Hour “Chhapaak”. Directed by Meghna Gulzar this movie is a biopic of an acid attack survivor “Lakshmi”. Being such a fine actress we hope Deepika to full this off and justify the struggle of this brave superwoman.   

Earlier she portrayed the role of “Rani Padmaavati in Padmaavat”, who was a true depiction of strength and courage. The movie was directed by Sanjay Lila Bhansali. Deepika garnered a lot of praises for her portrayal in the Movie. 

Another fine performance was done by the actress in “Piku” directed by Shoojit sircar. Actress appears in a Girl next door avatar.

Kangna- Manikarnika/Queen

An Indian epic biographical period drama movie Manikarninka based on life of Rani Lakshmi Bai, leading figure of Indian rebellion of 1857. The movie was directed by the actress herself. A patriotic saga told in the broadest of strokes, speaks of the bravery and audacity the Queen had. 

Speaking of queen how can we forget her depiction of girl next door in the movie Queen? A shy and homely girl finds her courage and self-confidence when she deiced to travel alone on her honeymoon after her fiancé called off the wedding.

Tapsee Pannu- Pink

A social thriller movie directed by Aniruddha Roy is a must watch. No doubt we can’t forget the one liner by Amitabh Bachchan in the film, but Tapsee Pannu character was beautifully written and portrayed on screen. A strong woman with courage fights for justice and mentality prevailed in our society.

Alia Bhatt- Raazi

An Indian spy thriller directed by Meghna Gulzar is about a sweet and innocent girl who becomes an undercover agent, get married into a Pakistani family to extract intelligence information for the country. This story beautiful narrates the story of the character Sehmat. A girl who gave her innocence to serve this Nation.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas- Marry kom

The best female centric role played by the actress till date is Marry Kom. Directed by Omkar Umang this biographical movie was based on Indian boxer life Marry Kom, who went through several hardships before audaciously accomplishing her ultimate dream. Marry Kom is a real superwoman and we need more of these women in our country.

Radhika Apte- Parched

Radhika Apte is one of the finest actresses we have in our country. Every role portrayed by her on screen whether small or big is worth watching. Parched is an Indian drama movie directed by Leena Yadav is a story of four women who are struggling with their hard life and inner demons but connected by their hope. The content of the movie is quite bold and talk about the women in rural Gujarat.  The movie was critically acclaimed. 

Sonam Kapoor- Neerja/Ek ladki ko dekha toh aisa laga

An intricate and heartfelt performance we saw by sonam in both the movies.  Neerja was directed by Ram Madhvani and ELKDTAL was directed by Shelly Chopra Dhar. 

Neerja was a true story based on a flight attendant, who safely rescues flight passengers when it was hijacked by some terrorists.  A tale of courage, bravery and selflessness. 

ELKDTAL a progressive look for love and acceptance, this story revolves around a lesbian girl. This is one of a kind movie that was presented on celluloid. A simple, sweet love story stands tall for LGBT community.
